Another two new cases of MERS-CoV infection in South Korea over the past 3 days (up to 5th July 2015), bringing the total to 186. One is a young female doctor from Samsung Medical Centre (Seoul), whereas the last case to date is the wife of a patient who was confirmed positive at Samsung Medical Centre as well. The number that has died now stands at 33 (case fatality rate of 17.7%). The tail end of the outbreak appears to be very long.

In other news from the Philippines, a second case of MERS-CoV infection was recently confirmed. This is a young man from the Middle East who had presented with symptoms on 2nd July, and had the diagnosis confirmed on 4th July 2015. The patient is now under treatment (and quarantine) at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Muntinlupa City, Philippines. There are 8 other persons – close contacts of this case – under quarantine at the moment, with one that is symptomatic (coughing).
